UK doctor and dust expert to speak on health risks of coal

Thursday 03 December 2009

Dr van Steenis, who has been researching the causes of death and chronic disease from dusts generated by coal mines, power stations and incinerators, will talk about the impacts that coal-related industries have on human and animal health during a speaking tour in coal-affected communities (see below) before an EDO-sponsored talk in Sydney.

He will be discussing the UK Coal Health Study he was involved in and the implications for lung and immune-system health of those living downwind of coal mines and power stations.  Used as an expert witness in successful pollution cases in the US, the former GP will be meeting concerned members of the medical community during his visit.
