Seabed Coal Exploration
Offshore coal and gas exploration is threatening the NSW coast from the Illawarra to Port Stephens. Before considering any exploration licence applications the Government should assess the cumulative environmental impact of coal and petroleum exploration licences in coastal waters, the impact on whale migration, marine life and potential pollution of our ocean and beaches, given that the granting of an exploration licence in NSW is merely the first stage of full scale mining.

This map shows the four exploration licence areas in question, covering a total of almost 6,000 square kilometres of ocean floor off the NSW coast.
